Chess: Understanding the Danish Gambit Part I

1 e4 e5 2 d4 exd4 3 c3 Line



White plans to hasten his development by
sacrificing two pawns. If both are captured,
he may obtain a powerful attack. Black faces
an uphill battle if he wants to retain the
material, but, he's able to get a satisfac-
tory position if he returns it in a timely
manner. Simpler, however, is to refuse the
second pawn by 3 ... d5!
